Stellenbosch

Visit to the Cape Winelands.

We commence our journey into the heart of the Cape Winelands. Our first stop-over is Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is an elegant, historical town with stately Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian architecture along its oak-lined streets – and it is so much more than that. It is constantly abuzz with locals, students, and tourists. Established by the governor of the Cape (Simon van der Stel) in 1679 on the banks of the Eerste River, Stellenbosch was – and still is – famed for its rich soil, just what was needed to produce vegetables and wine for ships stopping off at the Cape.

Hellshoogte Pass

A scenic drive into the heart of the Wine Region.

Helshoogte Pass, one of the most loved and traveled roads in the Western Cape, links Stellenbosch with the Drakenstein Valley, a scenic pass that transports one over the saddle that separates Simonsberg from the Jonkershoekberge and wends its way past fruit farms and vineyards en route. You will be astonished by its scenery and beauty!

Tokara Wine Estate

Enjoy some wine tasting on this stop-over!

In 1994 GT Ferreira purchased the Tokara farm for residential purposes. But that was until the wine-making potential of this land was discovered. The cool air makes for great wine and soon classic varietals were planted along the slopes of the Helshoogte Pass. The Tokara Premium Wine Range includes Whites such as the Reserve Collection Walker Bay Chardonnay, Reserve Collection Noble Late Harvest, Walker Bay Sauvignon Blanc, White (Semillon), Elgin Sauvignon Blanc and Stellenbosch Chardonnay. The Red is called Red (A Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot blend). Enjoy some wine tasting on this stop-over!

Franschhoek

The "food and wine capital" of South Africa.

Once a sleepy country retreat, the village began experiencing a boom in the 1990s. The ideal summer weather, snowy peaks in winter and proximity to Cape Town have turned Franschhoek into one of South Africa's most popular villages. Franschhoek is notable for having some of the top restaurants in the country within its borders. This fact, together with the strong wine culture, and pristine natural and architectural beauty has made Franschhoek into what many describe as the "food and wine capital" of South Africa.

La Providence Guest House
